hiawathafire.com E-Mail Access
Any
member of the Hiawatha Fire Department may request an email account.
By default, everyone's email address is their first initial, last
name at hiawathafire.com. For example, if George Bush was on our
department and wanted an email account, his address would be gbush@hiawathafire.com.
Under certain circumstances, you may be approved for an alias
address. For example if George wanted email sent to theprez@hiawathafire.com
to be sent to him it can if approved. You would still only have one
mailbox, mail sent to the alias would be forwarded to your main
mailbox.
Ok, so
now you have an email account. How do you get your mail? There are a
couple ways to get mail on our server.
-
Web
Based: Go to the web site http://mail.hiawathafire.com.
Note that there is no www on the front of it. A box will pop up
for you to log in. Your login name is just the part before the @hiawathafire.com.
For George, he would enter 'gbush'. Your password when your
account is set up is 'password'. You can change this from the
options page on the web site once you are logged on. I recommend
that you change it as soon as possible to avoid anyone else from
accessing your email account. Once you change it, I will not be
able to retrieve your new password. I can however reset it back
to 'password' if you have completely forgotten what it was. Some
people may have the login box ask you for a domain, if this
happens to you, leave it blank, you don't need it.
-
External
e-mail client: You can use programs such as Outlook or Outlook
Express to receive and send email as well. Set up an account
using the same login name and password as above. The POP3 and
SMTP servers are both mail.hiawathafire.com. One more thing, to
prevent our server from becoming a gateway for spam, we require
authentication on all outgoing mail. There will be an option
somewhere when you set up your email account in your software
that enables the outgoing (SMTP) authentication. The
authentication uses the same login name and password as above.
If you
have any questions about your e-mail account or wish to request one,
let Eric Hoover know. |
